Surveys Part 1

So I posted awhile ago that I was going to attempt some survey sites and see if they were actually worth the time and effort put into them. To be honest, I really haven't dedicated much time to doing surveys between my job, family, and blogging, plus some days I just didn't feel like it. I get frustrated with survey sites for a couple of reasons. One of the reasons is that when you first sign up, they usually have you fill out a bunch of questionaires and small surveys to find out all about your life. You would think they would use these surveys to ensure that they send out specific surveys to certain people that match their criteria, right? Instead, they send you links to every survey and the only way you get credited the money or points is if you qualify and finish the survey. Many times, you will spend a few minutes on the survey only to get a message saying that you do not qualify. Most sites will give you some sort of compensation for these few wasted minutes but it is typically something very small such as an entry into a drawing. I have signed up with a few different survey sites and will regularly update on how they are working out so far.

The first one is IMReportCard Research.

With IMReport Card, you are sent various surveys typically on a daily basis. Each one has a set amount of money you can earn if you finish the survey. If you don't qualify for the survey, you are credited 10 cents to your account. It doesn't sound like much, but eventually, that 10 cents can add up. I think if I spent time doing a few surveys each day with this site, I would make a pretty decent amount.

MySurvey is the next survey site I tried. I stopped doing surveys for them for a little while because twice in a row I was in the middle of a survey and the website froze and I couldn't continue or get credit for what I had done. I sent emails to the contact email address explaining the problem and got no response. The surveys seem to be working fine now. With MySurvey, you earn points for the surveys you complete; some are very short while others are longer. The points can then be redeemed for prizes such as gift cards, and hundreds of other items. As long as the surveys continue to work, I don't think it would take long to earn some nice prizes if you do them on a regular basis.

Feel free to leave a comment and tell us about your survey experience!

Journey to a New Job

Working from home has always been the main focus of this blog. Up until a few months ago, I had been working from home since the latter part of 2005. I did a variety of online jobs and tried just about everything to bring a little bit of extra money into the house. I went through phases of making decent amounts of money and phases of making hardly anything. I learned a lot over the years, and honestly, wasted a lot of time on scams out there but I found a lot of legit things as well.

I had the ability to experience what it was like to work from home. It wasn't always as great as it sounded. Yes, I experienced the perks of being able to work in my pjs and staying home with my children instead of putting them into daycare or shoving them off to a relatives house. Some of the jobs I did from home allowed me to work when I wanted to while others required a set schedule.

It wasn't always fun though. First of all, imagine trying to work while your kids are crying or fighting or whining for your attention and not having peace and quiet to concentrate on just the work in front of you. I didn't get out of the house much due to working from home and went through times of feeling lonely and isolated because I didn't get out to talk to other adults. It also became boring just sitting by myself (with kids in tow) every day.

A few years ago, I went back to college to pursue a degree in medical assisting. I graduated last year and then begun the long journey of job hunting. I naively assumed that it wouldn't take long for me to find a job between my previous job experience and my recently acquired college degree. Boy, I was in for a surprise when it took me over a YEAR to find a job. I applied everywhere, had some interviews but nothing came of them until the end of September. I had 3 offers in the same week. Two were completely out of the medical realm and one was somewhat within the medical field.

After working from home for 7 years, I was finally venturing into the working world again, away from my kids and away from my PJs. How was it making such a big change? Both difficult and rewarding. I had to find a babysitter for the kids that would work with our schedule. The kids had to get used to going to a babysitter on a regular basis instead of being at home with me.

How is it going a month and a half later? I do miss being at home but I am enjoying getting out of the house and making a nice steady paycheck. My body doesn't feel the same way, unfortunately. See, I was diagnosed with Rheumatoid Arthritis when I was a teenager but it never gave me many problems as an adult apart from some aches and pains when the weather was cold and rainy... until now. I hurt. I hurt everywhere. My job is not very physically demanding but my body isn't liking it. I hurt everywhere from my feet and ankles, my knees, my hips, my back, shoulders, elbows, wrists, and even my fingers. My joints are swollen and sore. My feet and ankles are double their size. What's going on with me??? It's beginning to freak me out. It's been going on for about a month now.. at first I thought that my body just needed to adjust to working again but so far, it's not adjusting much. I am doing better this week than the past few weeks. For awhile, it was all I could do to get out of a chair.. no, seriously. I felt like an 80 year old and was in tears on a regular basis. My doctor gave me some pain meds but they don't even phase the pain. This week, the pain has lessened but is not completely gone. I'm going to wait it out a little longer and if it doesn't get better, go back to see my doctor because I seriously can't live like this. I'm too young to be shuffling around like an old lady. Way too young. I don't want to quit my job either. I can't quit it. Not sure what the future holds for me right now. I may return to working from home one day, we will see what my body has planned for me. Right now though, this sucks.

Trying Some Surveys

A few weeks ago, I was finally able to land a job outside of the home. I know, working from home sounds glamorous but it just wasn't so much glamorous for me any more. I wasn't making as much money as I needed to be and frankly, I was tired of being at home every.single.day. I wanted to get out and put the knowledge I learned in college to good use while also getting out and conversing with other adults (oh, and the paychecks!).

As of right now, I am not working from home any longer however, I am doing a few things on the side for some extra spending money. One of the things I am trying is surveys. I never got into survey taking much in the past. I found them quite boring and time consuming. I decided that I would just try them now in my free time and see if it is actually worth the time doing them. I've heard about all of the great prizes and gift cards that some people are earning with various survey sites and I want to be one of them!

The survey sites I am currently using include:

MySurvey

IMReportCard

SendEarnings

I've been a member of these sites for awhile but have never taken the time to actually do a lot of surveys. I will report in a month or so on how things are adding up so far! Who else has had good luck with survey sites??

Glade Expressions Review

Being a Bzzagent, I have been lucky enough to receive quite a few items to review and share with others. My most recent items were from Glade. I was provided with coupons for free Glade Expressions Oil Diffuser and Glad Expressions Fragrance Mist.

I have 3 children and a lot of pets, and my house does not always smell like roses. I like to bring things into the house that can help give it a fresh and pleasant odor.

I chose the Lavender and Juniper breeze fragrance for the oil diffuser. I decided to try this one in the smelliest place in the house; the bathroom. Let's just say I have 2 boys that don't always pay attention to what they are doing while peeing causing a constant odor in the bathroom that comes back quickly even after cleaning!

The oil diffuser worked great for a few days but as with most other room air fresheners, I have to say that the scent didn't last long. I was hoping that for the price they are charging for these, the scent would last the whole 30 days as stated on the package. I was wrong. I can't even smell it now unless I get my nose right down to it.

For the fragrance mist, I chose Pineapple and Mangosteen. Oh my gosh, this smells soo delicious!!! It makes me want a cold fruity drink! I've tried many different sprays in my house and am always disappointed at how quickly the smell fades after spraying. With the Glad Expressions Fragrance Mist, the scent sticks around for awhile even after the mist has disappeared. I was surprised the first time I used it when I walked back into the room about a half an hour later and I could still smell it!

I will definitely purchase refills for the fragrance mist but I doubt I will worry about refills for the oil diffuser. The fragrance mist will work great for when you have guests over and want to add a fresh yummy fragrance to your home!

Should I Stay or Should I Go?

I've been without internet for awhile here. Was hoping that the problem would be remedied quickly but it looks like it won't be back on until I land a job outside of the home. Obviously, if we have no internet, I can't earn a dime online. I can get online from my phone but can't “work” that way. I tried to post on here about 10 different times using the Blogger App but every time I did, I would get an 'unexpected error' and would have to force the app closed, wasting everything that I had typed via my tiny little phone keyboard.

All of this time away from the internet and this blog got me thinking and I am seriously considering whether I want to keep up this blog or not. This blog is centered around working from home. When I started it, I was working as a texting op making decent money, about as much as what a part time job outside of the home would make without the cost of daycare or gas for the car. The whole texting world kind of went down hill and I was making less money and less money every month.

I decided to make a change and switch to freelance writing. I was writing for Demand Studios and making some nice cash every week; articles were always there waiting to be written and at $15 a pop, I was doing pretty good. Then, out of nowhere, when I would search for articles to write, there would be no good ones left. They would all be articles about fixing a car or something that I had no clue about, and eventually I would log on and there would be no articles at all. I soon found out that Demand made changes to where only certain writers got access to the good articles first. I don't know how they chose who got first access but I wasn't on the list.

I had written articles on other websites such as Suite 101 and hubpages. I earned a little bit from Suite 101 but not nearly as much as I was earning with Demand, not even close.

I graduated college last year with a degree in Medical Assisting. As soon as I graduated, I began the task of job hunting for a 'real' job, outside of the home. I didn't have much luck and I took a break from job hunting due to some personal problems.

In the meantime, I was doing little odd writing jobs here and there via oDesk and elance but they were not steady and not anything that I could count on getting paid for on a regular basis.

I began job hunting again about a month ago, applying everywhere and anywhere that I could think of, even if it wasn't in the medical field. I need a job and need one NOW. I still haven't had any luck. Had an interview yesterday but not expecting a call back because my luck has been THAT bad. I often wonder what an employer thinks when I tell them that I've been a 'freelance writer' for the past 7 years. Do they believe me or are the secretly laughing in their head? Hmmmm

Now that our internet is off, I haven't been able to make any money at all. I've been thinking about blog posts to write and post when I do have access to a computer and it dawned on me: how can I continue a work at home blog when I'm not even working from home any more?

I have a total of 4 other blogs, including my newest one which is for the new business I have recently started B and D Novelties andGifts but THIS one has always been my biggest. I'm wondering, if I make the decision to stop doing this blog, will any of my readers follow me to my other blogs? Would you even be interested in what I have to say?

I'm still throwing some ideas around. In the mean time, go up to the “my other blogs” tab at the top of the page to check out my other blogs and leave me a comment to let me know YOUR opinion!

Out of Order

My internet is temporarily off but hopefully not for long. I may attempt to do some blogging via my phone but not sure how easy that will be. Send me an email if you need something. I can check my email on my phone. I will be back soon!

Guest Post: Welcome Kandi from Gluten Free for Jen

I'm inviting anyone who is currently working from home to guest post on this blog. If you are interested, please contact me via the email button in the side bar! Welcome out first guest poster, Kandi! Please stop by her blog and say hello.

*********************************

I have been talking with Crazed Mama's in regards to what I do to make money from home. So I offered to share my business with you guys.

I do a couple of things to be honest. First the simple one- I am a mom blogger. While it does not pay a lot, yet, I am slowly starting to earn some extra cash here and there but most of my compensation comes in the forms of products. I am a member of sites such as Share a Sale which is where you can become an affiliate for a number of stores. I also write some articles as a Yahoo Contributor which pays based on the # of views. Then there is the sponsored posts that I will do on occassion. It is just a fun way to write, share ideas and opinions by being a mom blogger.

But my biggest job that I am starting to get off the ground is being in IBO for Amway. It is kind of like being an Avon Rep. My site offers anything a person could need from natural make up from the Artistry Line, the natural/organic cleaning line Legacy of Clean, to the organic vitamins from Nutrilite. We also carry a jewelry line and a gift card collection line and laundry items. I could go on. That is why I signed up to be in IBO. It really is a versatile company that has no limits.

Another reason why is because of their payouts. It is commission based but it isnt an MLM type of deal. If you sponsor people and they do not meet their sales qouta- you still get the money for the sales you generate! And if you don't meet your sale quota and your downline does- you still get the bonus commissions from them. The more you do the more you get. Here is a look at their pay scale

100–299.99......................3% of your BV
300–599.99......................6% of your BV
600–999.99......................9% of your BV
1,000–1,499.99................12% of your BV
1,500–2,499.99................15% of your BV
2,500–3,999.99................18% of your BV
4,000–5,999.99................21% of your BV
6,000–7,499.99................23% of your BV
7,500 or more...................25% of your BV
PV, BV AND YOUR PERFORMANCE BONUS
All the products you sell are assigned a Point Value (PV) and a Business Volume (BV). Monthly Performance Bonuses are calculated using the PV and BV you generate through your product orders, the orders created for or by your customers, and those placed by IBOs you sponsor.
PV determines your bonus percentage. The more PV you and Downline IBOs earn each month, the higher your bonus percentage. BV determines the dollar amount that your PV percentage is applied to. Because bonuses are calculated monthly, PV/BV accumulates only in the month it is earned. Balances are not carried forward from month to month.

So pretty much if you hit 100 PV then you get 3% of your sales. The more you sale the more commission you get. But then they have all the other bonus for if you go up to say a diamond, or platnum or ruby level.

If you would like to know more feel free to go here for more information. You may also Contact Me and I would be happy to answer any questions about the products or the business.

About me: My name is Kandi and I am the owner/writer for Gluten Free for Jen. I am a stay at home mother of 2 and started blogging in December of 2011. I started my blog to share my recipes, crafts, stories of my family and product ideas/suggestions and to help promote my Amway Business.

Be Wise When Looking for Freelance Work

I have stressed many time before that when you are looking for freelance work, you need to set a reasonable price for yourself. Everyone's time is valuable. When you apply via websites such as oDesk or elance, many of the clients are only looking for the cheapest price and unfortunately there are many, many freelancers out there who will gladly work for pennies. I've made it a point to tell some clients that the cheapest is not always the best.

There have been times that I have been desperate for work but I will not work for mere pennies. I can find better things to do than bust my butt to get work done just to earn a little bit of change. I try to make my fees reasonable for me and the client purchasing the work.

Many potential clients will try to get free work out of people. I can't stress this enough. If someone asks you to write a "test" article for them based on a keyword or phrase that they have chosen or any kind of "test" run for whatever service you are offering for free, don't do it!! You don't know what they are going to do with the work that you have given to them. They may be using it for profit of their own. Regardless of what they are doing, that is still free work that you spent your time doing. I've had quite a few clients ask me to do test runs for them. Some of them offer to pay me, while others understand that I can't work for free. Then you run across people like this:

Suzanne Glathar to Deanna3 days ago
Hi Deanna,
Thank you for responding to my job application. Please complete the pre-interview questionnaire and return to me.
I would also like for you to write 2 articles, 200 words each. The first article is “what is Copywriting”? And the second is your choice related multi-level marketing lead generation strategies. I am looking for articles that connect with the reader and captivate them in to read more. The articles are designed to build a relationship with my readers, so keep that in mind when you write the mini article. I do not pay for the articles, they are your articles, I will not keep them to use for my own personal gain (unethical).
Once that is completed and all is good, I will set up a time for an interview on Skype.
Best regards,
Suzanne Glathar
me to Suzanne Glathar 2 days ago:
I'm sorry but my time is very important to me and I don't have time to spare to write articles that I won't get paid for.
Suzanne Glathar to Deanna 2 days ago:
No problem I probably wouldn't like your work anyway.
me to Suzanne Glatharabout an hour ago:
Wow, that was rude. Glad I found out now.

Mind you, this woman contacted ME first asking me to "interview" for this position. There was no reason for her to be rude about it and I'm glad I found out how she was before I did any work for her!

When applying for freelance jobs, make sure that you have a full portfolio for potential clients to look at. I have numerous writing samples in all of my freelance profiles and this woman could plainly see if I was capable of handling her job. I understand that some people may want to see a test run before starting a contract but it should not be expected to be done for free, and YOU should not do it for free!

When I first began bidding on freelance jobs, I did become discouraged because it took awhile for me to get actual work. Once I began getting paid jobs, I received great feedback and began getting invitations to interview for other jobs. Don't give up!

Anyone else ever had problems like this?

Offer Your Expertise for a Price!

I know I've been missing in action in the blogging world lately. Been busy working on a writing project for a client, writing 80 snooooze worthy articles. Time is money and Crazed Mama needs money right now so I had to set my priorities! Also trying to think of some ways to spice up this blog a little. Some times I just run out of money making things to post about! Still working on some ideas and we will see where it takes me...

Back to money making! I just came across a brand new website called Talltic where you can offer up your expertise on specific subjects (it can really be about anything!). You get paid to do an online tutoring session in 10 minute intervals and get paid $6 per session. As I said, it's a brand new website so there aren't a lot of tutors available at the moment but once the word spreads through the internet world, imagine the possibilities! $6 for ten minutes? During that ten minutes, you can freely offer up any information you have on the stated topic and the asker or "sponge" as they call it, is free to ask you any questions regarding that specific subject. Once the tutoring session is over, the "sponge" gives you a grade and has the opportunity to leave a comment to let you know anything they think you can improve on or what you did good at.

I have not signed up for this yet just because I haven't had time. When you think about it, there's not much to lose out on because you get paid for any time you spend tutoring others. When I say tutoring, it doesn't have to mean tutoring on school subjects only. It can be anything and I mean anything; graphic design, web design, cooking, collecting, financial.. any thing!

Make Money with Cash Texts!!

Cash Texts is a brand new paid to get text messages website. It works by sending various text messages to your phone and paying you for receiving them! You get 5 cents for each text message. You don't have to click on the advertisement in the text but they do offer random prizes meaning that random numbers will be chosen to win if they click on the advertisement. They also have a downline where you can earn money every time one of your friends gets a text message from them as well as long as they sign up under your link. They also offer cash "perks". With cash perks, you get points for text messages and extra points for clicking on the link. You can also log into the cash perks dashboard on the Cash Texts website and earn perk points for visiting links and sharing links on Twitter or Facebook, and the perk points will convert to cash. It's really easy to do especially if you have unlimited text messages. Like I said, they are new but I have already begun earning and I think this can grow as they get more advertisers.

Simple To Telecommute Database

I was recently contacted about a great new resource for anyone looking to make money at home. Simpletelecommute is a fairly new database filled with all kinds of available work at home opportunities. You use the search box and type in what sort of job you are looking for whether it's a creative writer or virtual assistant, anything you want, hit search and you will be provided with a list of jobs opportunities available for you. Many of the jobs listed are from other freelancing websites such as oDesk or Geek Freelancers but it's great to have them all in one spot instead of having to search at each individual website.

No matter what sort of freelance work you are looking for, you will most likely find it at simpletelecommute !  Let me know if you have any luck finding work here!

Welcome Ultimate Blog Party !

This is my first year participating in the Ultimate Blog Party and I'm so excited to join in the fun. I know I'm a few days later but better late than never, right??

Now for my big introduction....

I'm Deanna and I live in Ohio with my husband of almost 9 years and my 3 children (8 yr old son and 7 yr old boy/girl twins). I have been working from home for approximately 6 years now. I started this blog a few years ago because I found a lot of people were struggling to find legitimate ways to earn money from home. There are so many scams out there and people were afraid to take chances in order to find the right job for them. I use this blog to talk about various ways that anyone can earn money from home without having to pay money up front and that have been shown to be legitimate. Apart from that, I also host a few giveaways and do a few product reviews. I enjoy doing product reviews and giveaways but I don't want this blog to be overtaken by them and lose the focus of this blog: helping others find ways to earn money from home. I know times are hard right now and any money will help no matter how big or small. I currently work mostly as a freelance writer but I do other small things online to earn money as well. It's always good to have lots of ways to earn a few bucks because you never know when one might close down.

Varolo: Get Paid to Watch Commercials

Varolo is similar to Jingit. You log in to watch commercials, then you rate the commercial and go on to the next. You get points for each commercial that you watch and the points can be redeemed for cash once you have a minimum of $20 in your account. You can earn more money by getting people to sign up under you. These people are considered to be your "village" and when they earn money, you also earn. I usually don't like these pyramid schemes but I think once you grow your village, you could probably earn a decent amount of money so I am going to try it. Also, they have a drawing every month for $500 and every time you watch a video or share one of their videos on Facebook, you earn an entry into the drawing.

It's very simple to do and most of the commercials are ones that I've already seen on TV. I think this could have some potential.

Does anyone have any experience using Varolo? Leave us a comment and tell us about it! Interested? Join Varolo!

Update On Jingit

I wrote a post a few months back about Jingit. You can get paid money to watch commercials on your computer. It was legit and I made money from it.. and spent that money. Soon after I posted about Jingit, they were advertising that the website would be "down" for about a week or so while they re-do everything in an attempt to get more advertisers. Well.. that's been months ago. I check in on it once in awhile to see if it is up yet, but still nothing. Although, at first, when I logged in, it just said, "sorry there are no more ads for you to view".. now it just says, "come back soon for more opportunities to earn".. so maybe that's a good sign. I downloaded their app for my Android phone but can't use it. It asks me to log in and then says, "success" and that's it; nothing else happens.

I'm wondering if anyone has any clue as to what is going on with Jingit?? I really enjoyed doing it and it was soo easy!! I hope it gets back up and running soon!

Pambras Bra Liner Review

Ok, women, this is a subject that we may not talk about much but many of us have experienced this. Who has sweaty boobies??? Me! I have two strikes against me because I am overweight and I also take a medication that causes excessive sweating. It's really quite gross and embarrassing especially during the summer. So much so, that I have thought about going off of my medication but the med. does what it is supposed to do and I don't want to give it up! My back and under my boobs get sweaty, sometimes irritating the skin or even turning into a yeast infection *yuck*.

Even if you don't sweat under your breasts, you may experience some type of irritation from the material on your bra. I heard about Pambras and immediately wanted to try it. They have 4 different types of bra liners including the tummy liner, the bra liner, the unilateral liner, and the bilateral liner, so pretty much anywhere you have irritation from your bra, this liner has you covered! I opted for the bra liner....

This liner is meant to work as a barrier between the front of your bra and your skin so that there will not be any type of sweat build up or irritation. These Pambra liners are also great for women who have had a mastectomy and experience irritation from the prosthetic.

I tried mine out and it works wonderfully! It made my bra more comfortable for one thing. I do have a spot where the elastic rubs against and it gets painful at times and this liner really helped. I will definitely use this in the summer time when it's warmer out. I think it will make me more confident having this liner on and not having to worry about my excessive sweating problem.

If you are not sure exactly how this liner works, here is a video to show you how:

They have a variety of sizes all the way up to XXL and they ship to the United States and Canada only.

They have a lot of great information on their Facebook page, so be sure to *like* their page for more information or you can visit their website.

*Pambras have provided me with a bra liner in return for my honest review.
